In addition to reinforcing Modern Karton’s sustainable production vision, the new facility contributes to the transformation of Türkiye’s paper and packaging industry. With its focus on resource efficiency, rigorous quality standards and environmentally responsible production infrastructure, PM6 is expected to become an important benchmark for the industry.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır said:

“In the Century of Türkiye, we are determined to achieve our goal of a ‘stronger and more prosperous Türkiye’ by expanding a high value-added and competitive production across every sectors of our industry.

Our paper and packaging industry, which supplies essential inputs to a broad production ecosystem spanning from food, pharmaceuticals, retail and e-commerce. Through its value-added production, diverse product range, export capabilities and recycling-focused structure, the industry makes a valuable contribution to Türkiye’s production, green transformation and development goals.

Our growing economy, expanding industrial output and the rapid growth of retail and e-commerce channels are creating significant opportunities for the sector in the domestic market. Recent export gains across different branches of industry are also increasing demand for high-quality paper and board products used in packaging, shipping and logistics, creating a strong foundation for further growth in the board industry.

The new Modern Karton’s production facility that we are inaugurating today is one of the clearest examples of the private sector’s strong response to our determination to build a high value-added, sustainable, environmentally responsible and competitive industrial structure.

This USD 850 million project represents a significant milestone in our development journey centred on investment, employment, production, and exports.

By converting recyled waste paper into economic value, using resources more efficiently and reinforcing environmentally responsible production, the facility represents an important benchmark in the transformation of our industry. I hope this facility, which has an annual production capacity of 650,000 tons and will create employment for 300 people when operating at full capacity, will bring lasting benefits to our city, our industry and our country.”

Chairman of the Board of Eren Holding, Emir Eren, said:

“With our new production facility, we aim to increase Modern Karton’s annual production capacity to 2 million tons while also contributing to the competitiveness of Türkiye’s paper and packaging industry. This investment brings our total employment in Zonguldak to 1,700 people.

We believe that this investment will also make a significant contribution to our export strength. We aim to more than double our export revenues and expand our export reach from 25 to 37 countries.

At Eren Holding, we have confidence in Türkiye’s production capabilities, human resources, and industrial potential. Through our investments, we will continue to contribute to employment, generate value for our country through exports, and work toward leaving a stronger Türkiye for future generations.”
