Eren Holding launched the Shotton Mill Project
At a meeting attended by prominent figures from the business world and ministers from the UK and Welsh governments, Eren Holding officially launched the Shotton Mill paper mill.
This project in North Wales is one of the largest foreign manufacturing investments in the UK in recent years.
The new cardrboard and tissue manufacturing facility will be among the biggest in the UK and the most sophisticated in Europe.
Currently, the UK exports waste cardboard abroad, which is recycled and reimported for sale in the UK. When this state-of-the-art cardboard manufacturing plant is fully operational, the UK will transition from a net importer to a net exporter. This will further enhance recycling by processing a quarter of the waste cardboard that is currently exported.
The installation of a hydrogen-fueled Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant will be a critical component of the projectmaking it energy self-sufficient. As a result, the company will achieve one of its primary sustainability objectives by generating low-carbon, efficient energy to power the plant's operations.
Mr. Hamdullah Eren, a member of the Eren Holding Board, stated, "This project is the initial step towards the construction of a world-class facility that will completely transform the recycling levels in the UK. Soon, we are excited to begin production and bring our vision to fruition. We are delighted to have the support of both the UK and Welsh governments. This allows us to proceed with a significant overseas investment as we execute our thrilling plans for Shotton Mill."
The UK Government was represented at the launch by the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, the Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP and the Secretary of State for Wales, the Rt Hon Jo Stevens MP.
Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, and Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, represented the Welsh Government.
CEO Mr. Sabri Çimen stated the following statements: "Eren Holding consistently adheres to the principle of investing in the most advanced technology and collaborating with specialised and established companies. This investment will unite people, community, advanced technology, and investment, building upon the rich manufacturing heritage of Deeside. We are immensely proud to be a part of the renaissance of North Wales.”
The Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, Minister of State for Business and Trade, stated: "This is a huge vote of confidence in the Welsh economy and the Government's plans to make Britain the preferred destination for investment in tomorrow's industries. Not only will this transformational investment promote the creation of high-quality local jobs, but it will also elevate the quality of life in the community.
The agreement that was announced today is a testament to the potential that can be realised when the Welsh and UK governments collaborate. It is also a proud celebration of National Manufacturing Day, during which we acknowledge the significant innovation that is occurring in the sector, particularly at Shotton Mill."
Jo Stevens, the Secretary of State for Wales, stated: "Deeside has a long and proud history as one of Wales' major industrial centres. This significant investment by the two governments will secure jobs and help the area secure a prosperous future. We have re-established a collaborative relationship between the UK and Welsh Government, collaborating to provide growth and employment opportunities for the people of Wales".
According to Rebecca Evans MS, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy, and Planning, "This project is excellent news for Deeside and the larger Welsh economy and is a prime example of how our commitment to a prosperous, green economy can attract investment and create good, sustainable jobs while reducing waste."
"Paper waste will be converted into recycled packaging in Wales when fully operational, as opposed to being transported hundreds or thousands of kilometres overseas for processing. This results in a net reduction in carbon emissions that is equivalent to the emissions of 190,000 homes annually, as a result of the technology's nature.
"The community will be at the heart of the business' success for many years to come, and our £12m support will secure and create local jobs."
Regarding this investment, the BBC issued the subsequent remarks, which also generated significant interest in the international media: işletmenin başarısının merkezinde yer almasını sağlayacaktır.”
